To support the Little Lights ministry, WCF is heading to the Potomac Gardens housing development on April 13 to do one-on-one reading with students and to serve them lunch. Tutors must be 16 years old or above and submit a liability form upon arrival. If you and your school-age children wish to contribute, come on out and help us prepare the lunch together at WCF from 9:00-10:00am. Register as "Lunch Preparation".
Reading Warriors is designed to help students expand their reading skills through one on one assistance. In 2018, over 85% of Little Lights students were reading below grade level. Reading Warriors gives students the opportunity to work on literacy skills to help close that gap.
When students arrive to Reading Warriors on Saturday morning, each student is paired up with a volunteer. The student and the volunteer work together to read a book and complete activities specific to the student's instructional reading level. This targeted and individualized instruction is key for students to reach grade-level literacy.
The WCF team will need to supply lunch for 30 students. Lunches should include sandwiches, drink, and snack. For dietary reasons please refrain from pork products. We recommend a mix of PB&J’s and some other type of sandwich (i.e. turkey & cheese) to satisfy all stomachs!
